I'm worried about money

Worry about money is rarely about money alone: it is about rent, children, dignity and the future. Jesus did not despise those worries — he taught his disciples to ask for bread one day at a time — but he also warned that wealth can quietly become a master.

Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.

What Scripture doesn’t tell us

If debts or bills are overwhelming you, talk early to a free debt-advice service or a social worker: asking for help is not a failure of faith. If money worries keep you from sleeping or eating, talk to a doctor as well.

Someone who walked this road

Pray

Father, you know what I need before I ask. Give me bread for today, wisdom for the next decision and the courage to ask for help. Free me from fear and from greed. Amen.

Written for cento53 as a simple personal prayer — not a liturgical text.

One thing to do today

Write down one money worry and one concrete step you can take this week: a phone call, a line in a budget, a question to someone you trust. Then pray the Our Father slowly, stopping at the line about bread.

  • What would you do differently if you trusted that the Father knows what you need?
  • Is there anyone you could help, even a little, with what you have?
