Saint John the Baptist

The son of Zechariah and Elizabeth, the prophet who prepared the way for Jesus. He preached repentance by the Jordan, baptised Jesus and pointed him out as the Lamb of God. Herod Antipas had him beheaded. He is the only saint, besides Mary, whose birth the Church celebrates.
